Technology
As my website's name implies, I spend an inordinate amount of time on the computer, although I am trying to cut down! I'm not an engineer, gamer or hacker, but I do enjoy checking out new technology, playing with gadgets, and making things with my computer such as music CDs, DVDs, movies, audio programs and websites.
I bought my first computer (a MacPlus!) in 1990, and started exploring the digital world. I got an AOL account and spent hours downloading silly audio files and various desktop accessories (remember Oscar the Grouch, who emptied your Trash?) on a 14.4k modem. In early '95 I went to work at CompuServe, which, at that time, was the largest national online service provider. How quickly things change. The web was rapidly taking off, and by the end of that year, everyone wanted to be a part of it. I built my first website, and started taking classes in digital media. It was new, exciting and fun--in fact I still get a kick out of being able to make something where you click on a button and something happens!
I've been building websites professionally since 1996, and over the years built dozens of sites for corporations such as Kaiser, UC San Francisco, Alameda County, Oracle, US Web, Barclay's Global Investors, Bank of America, LIVE 105 radio, Openwave Systems, the Institute for the Future, and many others. I also enjoy making sites for individuals to promote their businesses, hobbies, and/or personal interests. Visit my websites page to see some of the work I've done.
Although I'm a very cross-platform user (Mac, Windows and UNIX), when it comes to what I own, I would rather have a Macintosh. Over the years, I've owned quite a few Macs: a MacPlus, IIsi, PowerBook Duo 210, PowerMac 8500, PowerBook 3400, blue G3, a G4 with SuperDrive, and most recent addition - a 15" PowerBook with SuperDrive! Whoo-hoo!
