I freely admit to being a geek, but not in every way. I don't go to Fry's, have never watched Star Trek, and didn't like Lord of the Rings. But I was a Math major in college, still play Tetris, and love my high tech gadgets as much as anybody else.
I wasn't always a technophile. My first passion was radio and I spent 20 years working in broadcasting - first in college at UC San Diego and UC Berkeley, then in the San Francisco at KYA/KSFO and LIVE 105. I also started a radio station in Willits, and created my own original adult rock format. I learned so much about music being in radio - people are always amazed at how quickly I can name a tune. All that music trivia came in handy when I was a contestant on Rock 'n' Roll Jeopardy and took second place.
My foray into the online world started in the early '90's when I would look for programs that did silly things on your Mac operating system (remember Oscar the Grouch that sang a song when you emptied your trash?), collect biscotti recipes, or find all of R.E.M.'s lyrics from some fan group. In 1995 I went to work for CompuServe as an account rep to software companies in the Bay Area. Within a few months the web started to take off right before my eyes. This was an exciting time in technology and I dove right in. I made my first web page that summer and have been building websites professionally since 1996.
Several years ago I decided to start playing music again. I took classical piano lessons as a kid, and learned to play guitar in my 20's, but had stopped playing altogether for a long time. I now play both keyboard and guitar in a band, and love having music back in my life again. By the way, that is actually a photo of my Rickenbacker 360 Jetglo that you see with my anime character. Did you know both Peter Buck and Marty Willson-Piper have the exact same guitar?
